4624 District Skin Care Team Develops Powerpoint Presentation to Implement New Wound and Skin Care Protocols

Topic: Skin care team created powerPoint presentation to support staff education for implementation of wound and skin care products, and guidelines.

Purpose:  New wound and skin care guidelines were developed for a large hospital district to prevent pressure ulcers and improve wound care.  Considering the districts multiple facility needs, a plan was devised to create a powerPoint presentation to introduce information to staff.  Skin care champions worked together to create the presentation. 

Objectives: 

Attendee will be able to identify key concepts needed to create powerPoint presentation used to facilitate implementation of information.

Attendee will be able to identify the steps taken to utilize powerPoint presentation to educate staff on new wound and skin care guidelines.

Outcomes: 

Steps used by skin care team to create a presentation suited for staff nurses:

  • WOC nurse lead volunteer skin care team members through project
  • Review of literature to determine best format was completed
  • Presentation time frame kept to 20 minutes.
  • Pictures of product items to support guidelines were included in the presentation
  • Description of guidelines as best practice were also included

The following steps were taken to utilize the powerPoint presentation for education of staff members:

  • Skin care team members not involved in the making the presentation, were educated.
  • Each skin care champion was responsible for presentation of powerPoint to their unit staff. 
  • Products involved in guidelines were available for visual and hands on during the session. 
  • References were provided for resources 

The following outcomes were identified after using the powerPoint presentation for training staff on new information:

  • Improved utilization and understanding of guidelines
  • Improved implementation and utilization of products
  • Increased knowledge and autonomy for nursing staff regarding wound care
  • Increased interest of nurses in the WOC nursing specialty
