Purpose- To describe the process of utilizing a nursing theory to guide the development of a evidence-based wound management program.
Objective- Nursing's focus recently has been on the importance of evidence-based nursing practice but we have neglected to use established nursing theory to guide that practice. Nursing theory, whether it is a conceptual framework or if it is a middle-range theory, can be utilized to provide a guiding framework in establishing evidence-based practice and the implementation of that practice. Many Magnet facilities have identified a Nursing Theory as a framework for nursing practice. This poster will describe the utilization of the Weidenbach Nursing Theory in the development and implementation of a evidence-based wound management program. The outcomes we hope to achieve are: 1) a theory-guided evidence-based guideline to assist nursing staff in wound management decisions, 2) to promote nursing satisfaction in the knowledge of choosing appropriate wound management using the wound guideline, 3) to promote a user-friendly wound management program, 4) and to promote improved skin integrity awareness by the nursing staff. Outcomes will be demonstrated by validation methods such as nursing satisfaction survey, quarterly prevalence/incidence survey, verbal discussion with staff and follow-up discussion with unit managers/preceptors.
