Technology has changed the way health care professionals communicate. One such tool is the Telemedicine system. United Health Services Hospitals Inc. maintains a program of selected information technology and telecommunication resources to provide a "shared view" for patient images, sounds, and or video. The Wound, Ostomy, Continence nurses were introduced to the program in April, 2006, by Dr. Lawrence Kerr, a plastic surgeon who practices at the hospitals and is one of the organizers of the program. This poster presents an overview of how it is utilized in regard to wound management. A case study is also profiled. Patients benefit from this service through timely communication and collaboration among specialists. OBJECTIVES: Viewers will be able to identify practical application for WOC practice in various settings. METHOD: Case study portraying use of Telemedicine system to expedite patient care through enhanced communication. CONCLUSIONS: Although still in its initial stages, we find it beneficial in promoting a multidisciplinary approach to addressing wound management and increasing positive patient outcomes.
