This study aimed to evaluate the quality of life of colostomy people with and without plug system use considering the hypothesis that people who use it have better quality of life. Method: The sample consisted of 50 colostomy people using the plug system (case) and 50 colostomy people not using it (control). The study variables were: gender, age, education level, religion/belief, marital situation, familiar support, employment situation, profession / occupation, ostomy cause, ostomy time, outpatient follow-up time, self-irrigation (yes or not), self-irrigation use time, plug system use time, plug system permanence time (in hours), associated illness, specific treatments, and those referring to quality of life. The data collect instrument was the WHOQOL-bref and the data was collect from October 1, 2005 to May 31, 2006, after project approval by the Ethic Committee of the University and Heliopolis Hospital. Results: When comparing plug system and not plug system people, according to their ostomy time and outpatient follow-up time, their quality of life was significantly better than those without plug system, being observed in all the instrument domains and in general quality of life and health (p
