The team purpose is for the development of a specialty specific scorecard that alligns with our coorporation strategic plan.  The team also identified areas for process improvements for both hospital and clinic practice to include referral tracking, coding and billing, physician referrals and supervision, physician orders, revenue tracking, and data collection for WOCN program.

Success Highlights:

  • Creation of an automated scorecard that monitors WOCN progress on a monthly basis.  The Scorecard shows a balanced view of the department reguarding Patient Satisfaction, Quality, Access/Process, Financial Metrics, and Productivity.
  • Development of an order set for out-patient care.
  • Streamlined the referral, ordering, and supervising doctor process so that we provide correct care under "incident to" rulings and generate revenue back to our home department.
  • Creation of an automated patient referral list for hospitalized patients.
  • Creation of a hospital billing route slip.
  • Updated clinic and hospital route slips to be more inclusive of patient cares provided and types of patients seen.

Project Conclusions:

  • Frequent measurement and analysis of a process can provide the ability to react appropriately to trends in data.
  • Scorecard provides a way to communicate the departments progress to administration.
  • Review and revisions to practice processes allow for greater accuracy and efficiencies.
