Components of a wound care regimen, a guide for the non specialist

COMPONENTS OF A WOUND CARE REGIMEN, A HELPFUL GUIDE FOR THE NON-SPECIALIST
This poster introduces a menu style approach to formulating a wound care regimen (essentially an order sheet) based on some of the basic components necessary to assist the healing process. It is aimed at the non specialist and  / or as an educational tool within  any health-care setting. It gives a format to assist with prescribing dressings but takes this a step further by guiding the non specialist toward a full wound care regimen. Caring for a patient with a wound is much more than just putting what is ordered as a dressing on the wound and this order sheet has been organized into a complete tool based on the key components of a wound care regimen.  It is more appropriate for dressings to be prescribed by how they function rather than ingredients and this is reflected with this approach. The form is easy to understand and  it can be used with a fairly restricted  customized formulary.

The goals for this approach are to:

• Assist practitioners particularly doctors with developing wound care regimens
• Use generic terms to fit a variety of formularies.
• Streamline product use.
• Encourage the use of the principles of modern wound care.
• Discourage the use of inappropriate (and costly) dressing practices.
