Biographical Sketch: Mary Gerlach has been a registered nurse for 30 years, a certified WOCN Nurse since 1989, and a Clinical Nurse Specialist since 1995. Mary’s background includes 11 years working at a Visiting Nurse Association and 13 years at a National Comprehensive Cancer Institute. Mary currently works at a 350 - bed community hospital in the Metropolitan Detroit area as a Clinical Nurse Specialist and WOCN Nurse.
Mary is a member of the Mid-East Region of the WOCN, past member of the WOCN Guidelines & Standards Committee, and in 1996, was a co-author of the Guidelines For Management, “Caring For A Patient With A Continent Diversion”.
In 2005, Mary authored a book chapter in Nursing Clinics ,Wound Issues In the Patient with Cancer and also has co-authored two journal articles, Computer Testing of the Braden Scale for Predicting Pressure Sore Risk in 2005 and Care of Metastatic Skin Lesions in 2000.
