Management of a complex abdominal wound: a case experience Introduction Ms Mary, age 56 years-old lady has Ovarian Carcinoma for the last 5 years. She was presented with peritoneal metastasis. On the 5th December 2008, she underwent T6 ureteric stenting, anterior resection and right hemicolectomy, Peritonectomy, Bladder repair, Cholecystectomy, Omentectomy, Intra-peritoneal chemotherapy and double barrel stoma created. Following this operation, she undergone a total of another five operations for wound breakdown.

Aim With all this and spillage of abdominal fluid, urine and faceal complications. Our aim is to protect the peri-wound skin from breaking down and to contain all the discharges.

Method

Varieties of wound product, pain reduction and creativity method is employed to enhance skin integrity and patient’s comfort.

Result

After six months of active intensive management of the wound, patient’s skin integrity was excellent. Ms Mary could sit out of bed and have active physiotherapy and ambulant around.

Conclusion

Ms Mary had two months of quality of life whereby she can consume her favorite food. However, her demise is due to pleural effusion and cardiac failure. Before her passing, she expressed her gratification of being able to fulfill all her wishes.
