THE DEVELOPMENT OF WOUND CLINICAL NURSE SPECIALIST THROUGH FOCUS INTEREST GROUP (FIG) IN DHARMAIS NATIONAL CANCER CENTRE ,
JAKARTAINDONESIA
Introduction :
As a top referral  for cancer diseases, Dharmais National Cancer Centre Hospital should have a comprehensive treatment of the cancer, as well as the nursing knowledge and skills to meet these needs. There are so many problems involved in patient with cancer especially patients with terminal condition / advance stage. And over than 10% of that patient have wound cancer which in certain circumstances,  the aim of the treatment is not curative anymore but  how to give the best care for increased  quality of life.
According to that complex problems, the hospital management needs several competent wound nurse specialist or ET Nurse. In this moment we  only have 6 ETNs, and if  its compare as the top referral hospital for cancer, that numbers not enough to accommodates all the needs of the patients.
The high cost for sent a nurse to study ETs makes Nursing Service Management and Vice President of Dharmais  build a interest peer group or Focus Interest Group (FIG). FIG is a group of several nurses which has a same interest to certain area of competency, for example Dharmais already develop FIG for Management of Wound care , Management of Chemotheraphy, and many more.
Objectives :
1.      To increase the competency of the nurses in management of Wound and Stoma Care
2.      To increase the quality of nursing care especially in management of wound cancer.
3.      To achieve the needs of competent nurse in giving wound and stoma care.
Activities of Wound and Stoma FIG
1.      Education and Development
·        Give a routine Case Presentation about Wound and Stoma to the Group and other nurses
·        Presenting Seminars and Workshops about Wound and Stoma both internal Dharmais and also external such as other Institutions and Hospitals all around Indonesia.
·        Manage Routine Wound and Stoma Training for nurses from Dharmais and Other Hospitals.
·        As a Team Consultant for other Hospital who wants to build a Wound clinic for their own.
2.      Research
·        Conducting some research or study case concerned to Wound and Stoma Care.
Result :
·        We have  6 ETs   with 37 nurses member in  Wound and Stoma Care Interest Group
·        20 % nurses have followed one week wound and stoma care training
·        Since 1999 until now , we trained 500 nurses from    Other Education Nursing Institutions and Hospitals all around Indonesia.
·        Our patient  in Wound and Stoma Care Clinic around 15 to 30  patient each day and in ward around 15 patient / day
·        In the mean time we are supervising of development of   2 wound and stoma care clinic in other hospital in Jakarta
Conclusion :
By way of FIG, the needs of competence nurse in wound and stoma care in Dharmais can be achieved, where every side of ward have at least one nurse who competence in this area. If they have some problems with the wound and stoma care they can consult to the ETs.
