This study aims to evaluate whether a moist dressing with calcium and sodium  alginate associated with Linoleic Acid (LA) and D-Alfa-Tocopherol  are changed every three days, was able to give the effect of bolus during radiation application, reducing the risk of osteomyelitis and wound infection, minimizing the deleterious effects of radiation on bone tissue and mucosa.
The radiation deleterious effects on living tissues have been the subject of several studies in recent years. Complications of skin as the radiation-induced radiodermites are factors that limit people's lives, affecting not only the self-esteem, but also the anatomy, compromising all the physiology of the organ.
As the study subject was two patients with head/neck malignant neoplasia (nose and eye E) in the late post-operative period of exeresis of a malignant tumor, which were followed before, during and after radiotherapy. Both had bone exposure, soft tissue necrosis and irregularity of the bed and edges of the lesion. Treatment and healing of the wound were carried out every three days with calcium and sodium alginate associated with the Linoleic Acid (LA) and D-Alfa-Tocopherol.
Through the results of this therapeutic approach it can be seen that was positive for the bolus effect with protection of tissues to acute effects of therapy proposed by the study. We also observed the reduction of pain and discomfort, reduction of necrosis previously established in the wound bed, growth of granulation tissue and improves the local blood supply. This shows that an interdisciplinary approach in treatment results in quality and effectiveness in therapeutic interventions.
Osteoradionecrosis to be a late effect of radiotherapy can not be assessed. Both the patients died within one year of monitoring. This factor added to an insufficient sample for the rarity of cases, we suggest the continuity of these case studies and data analysis.
