  Background:

  • Research or supportive evidence is lacking  to support a best practice process on ordering and discharging rental beds in acute care
  •  Benchmarking with other acute care wound  departments  revealed expenses were excessive for rental beds at BTMC
  •  Advanced Practice Nurse identified:
    •  Need to decrease expenses for rental beds
    •  Need  for a multidisciplinary  flow process  to   decrease expenses
    •  Utilized ASSURE Professional Practice Model to achieve the goal

Goals:

 

  • Develop a flow process for ordering and discharging rental beds
  • Continue providing pressure relief for those patients who require it
  • Expect a decrease in rental bed expenses
