PURPOSE:  Effective methods of debridement were reevaluated when chemical debridement agents were removed from the market.  Active Leptospermum Honey was studied.

METHOD:  Active Leptospermum Honey was used alone or in conjunction with other therapies on several full thickness pressure ulcers.

We will present a photo gallery of 4 cases where Active Leptospermum Honey was used effectively as a debridement and healing agent in full thickness pressure ulcers.

CASE 1:  65 year old with Multiple Myeloma s/p hip fracture with stage 4 pressure ulcer.  Result:  healing well at time of discharge.

Case 2:  23 year old with GSW, burns and inhalation injury with exposed skull at the occipital area.  Results:   Healed completely.

CASE 3:  21 year old with spina bifida and respiratory distress s/p multiple arrests with a stage 4 sacral decubitus. Results:  Healed completely.

CASE 4:  47 year old with severe vascular disease s/p Left AKA with a stage 4 sacral ulcer.  Results:  Healed completely.

CONCLUSIONS:   All patients received Active Leptospermum Honey wound gel, alginate, or hydrocolloid dressings as a method of wound care treatment and had evidence of increased granulation tissue, decreased pain, and decreased odor within the wound.  The dressing was easily applied by either nurses in the hospital, or by home care nurses or family members once home.  As the wounds healed, the frequency of dressing changes was decreased according to the amount of drainage so the dressing was also cost effective.  No adverse side effects were observed in any of the patients who were treated with Active Leptospermum Honey.
