Background
Radiation skin reactions are a known side effect of radiation therapy. Explore by evidence-based medicine, dressing to use for the treatment of head and neck cancer the fourth grade radioactive dermatitis clinical effectiveness.
Method
First proposed clinical questions and search strategies to "Radiodermatitis, Bandages" as a keyword, by secondary databases (Cochrane library, First Consult, Up To Date) to the primary database search (Medline, Pubmed, CEPS), look for prior to April 2011, study design limitations for clinical trial, practice guideline, randomized controlled trial, stystematic Reviews, included six studies in this review. Observation of a medical center, the fourth grade of the head and neck cancer radiation-induced skin inflammation dressing adjuvant therapy outpatients, a total of 17 people.
Result
Included six trials, the evidence grade IIb: Most of the earlier studies, the use of dressings in treating radiation dermatitis retrospective study, the lack of a systematic, prospective study, in addition to the majority of study lacked a control group and a randomized control group, making the dressing so that the effect of radiation-induced skin inflammation can not established. Observation of a medical center, the average usage dressing after the start of the number of days to be healing was 13.5 ± 13.5 days, subjects with the reaction to the pain, that use of scale assessment records subjects with pain response, 7.2 ± 2.8 on the first day and the second day was 3.2 ± 1.8 points.
Conclusion
Despite the lack of large-scale clinical studies, but evidence tend to support dressings use to reduce the the fourth level radioactive dermatitis clinical wound healing days to increase the cure rate. Observations help dressing adjuvant treatment of Grade IV radiation dermatitis patients, reduce pain, promote wound healing and improvement in patient comfort.
