CS14-007 Pouching A leaking G-tube/Meeting the triple aim ( patient satisfaction, cost containment, best practice)

Carol Jones, cwocn, VNA Care Network, south hamilton, MA
I would like to demonstrate the application process of an ostomy bag over a leaking G tube. Patient has a G tube which leaked  apx 700cc of fluid (eveything she ate) around it daily.    The patient came to our VNA with a  process being used that leaked at least daily and cost apx 1780$/month to manage. She was unable to leave her home,  unable to sleep and her skin was totally denuded.  By switching the technique used  I was able to obtain at 7 day wear time and decrease the cost to apx 248$/month.  Her skin improved completely, she was able to sleep, go out with friends and to chemotherapy without worry. So, I was able to use Best Practice, Provide Cost containment and best of all improve the patients quality of life and satisfaction. I will show this by a step by step instruction with pictures.  The products used were  a drainable urine ostomy bag which was hooked up to an overnight bag, a barrier ring, stoma powder, skin protectant, a nipple device to thread the g tube through the bag, an ostomy adaptor and an ostomy belt.  NO Trade names will be used.
