As part of the implementation of Section 6102(c) of the Affordable Care Act, nursing homes are being called to develop Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) programs.  This poster summarizes the QAPI process, identifies the 12 steps to implement QAPI, and outlines the necessary steps to execute a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP).  To illustrate the PIP process, a case study is presented on preventing facility-acquired pressure ulcers in a long term care facility.  The case includes a Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Fish Bone diagram outlining the facility’s pressure ulcer processes.  The resulting corrective actions and case results are presented.
