CS15-039 Wound management with far infra-red radiation of three case reports

FIR(Far Infrared radiation) therapy improves endothelial function , reduce the frequency of some cardiovascular diseases , has been used to treat vascular diseases and may increase blood flow . FIR might have promotive effects on skin wound healing by the stimulating of the secretion of TGF-β1 or by the activating of fibroblasts independent of skin blood flow and skin temperature .

Case(1):

Female , took Allopurinol to treat her Gout. She had mucosal and bullous lesions almost all over the body, with massive discharges .Following a diagnosis of Stevens-Johnson Syndrome she was admitted. Her wounds were treated with Aquacel , After 4 days most of the wounds were improving but the chest and axillary area still had major discharges. FIR was then used . after 3-4 days her wound condition improved .

Case(2):

Female,with systemic sclerosis history patient, she got thickening and induration of her both heels for one month. and an open wound of her both heels for one week , painful , much of discharge.

They were treated with Aquacel , and After 6 days the discharge of the wounds were decreasing but the wounds still the same at no signs of healing . FIR was then used locally . The wound condition improved after 6-8 days.

Case(3):

Female , with breast cancer history, After chemotherapy and radiotherapy . She suffered from skin wet desquamation with moderate amount of exudates almost all over her chest and back , Using Aquacel to treat the wound for 4 days , the wound was not improved but lager . FIR was then used locally .after 3-4 days her wound condition improved .

Conclusion:

FIR may be considered as an alternative therapy , it may decrease the need for antibiotic therapy , pharmaceuticals for pain and neuropathic management , frequency in clinician intervention , and product utilization .
