Healing the non-healing infected wound : A case series

Objective :

Patient’s with large infected wounds continue to be a challenge . This abstract summarizes  the innovative approach for three complex patient’s where moist therapy specifically tailored for each person with large infected wounds that were previously resistant to healing was successfully implemented.

Methods:

Three cases will be described in detail on the final poster. Patient’s had co- morbilities  including chronic illnesses and immunosuppression which further complicated the healing process. These challenging wounds were treated using gel and silver foam dressings. Systematic antibiotics were also part of the treatment plan.

Results:

Under the direction of the speciality  educated wound care nurse, in all cases,these complex wounds healed. Case one wound healed in two weeks. Case two wound which had been treated for three months healed without success, under our care, healed in twenty days. The third case that physicans’ had failed to heal for one year was healed in four weeks.

Conclusion:

The small case series support the RN ET can have successfully wound healing. Using gel and silver foam dressing for complex patients with non-healing infected wounds.
