Biographical Sketch: Alexis Sherman is an ostomy nurse at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital. Alexis has bravely battled Crohn's disease for over 21 years and knew early on that she wanted to help others cope with their illness. After graduating from Dickinson College in 2003 with a BS in biology, she went on to obtain a BSN fron NYU in 2005 and began her nursing career on one of Sinai's GI med/surg units. Last year she went to Emory University to become a WOCN and feels her 17.5 year's as an ostomate has really come full circle.
Alexis is dedicated to working with people living with ostomies and Inflammatory Bowel Disease outside of the hospital as well. For the last 7 years she has volunteered with the CCFA at Camp Oasis for kids living with IBD as a cabin counselor and can't imagine missing it. She also volunteers as a support group facilitator and participates in many CCFA events.
