Introduction:
Peristomal skin disorders are common1. To advance stoma care nursing practice, more knowledge and evidence is needed about the factors influencing peristomal skin conditions.
Objective:
To present a baseline data analysis that will focus on the factors influencing peristomal skin conditions.
Methods:
Peristomal skin conditions of people with a colostomy, ileostomy or urostomy of at least 6 months duration were measured by the Ostomy Skin Tool2 in an open label, non-comparative, multi-national, post-marketing study (the DialogueStudy) conducted in more than 15 countries and involving more than 500 stoma care nurses. The data analysis will include approximately 2300 people with a stoma from around 10 countries.
Study outcomes:
We will present data to refute or validate key variables thought to be related to the development of peristomal skin conditions:
·         Type of ostomy
·         Frequency of visit
·         Time since operation
·         Permanent or temporary stoma
·         Country/cultural differences
