This is a case of an 87 years old woman who has an emergency surgery for intestinal volvulus, which was complicated with burst abdomen of the surgical wound that required a Bogota bag to contain it. In fifteen days the Bogota bag was removed showing abundant slough and loss of continuity of the skin.
OBJECTIVES:

- To promote healing in a moist environment.
- To reduce bacterial contamination of the wound bed.
- To encourage the growth of granulation tissue and speed healing by secondary intention.
- To promote the patients’ comfort during their hospital stay.
- To reduce the time of hospital stay of these patients.
- To reduce nursing time.
MATERIAL AND METHODS:
For the design of the poster, we use a clinical case of the before-mentioned patient, hospitalized in our unit, who required the closure of surgical wound by secondary intention.
Hydrocolloid Aquacel dressing
Photographic records with wound measurements.
RESULTS:
The wound care is done with Aquacel (hydrocolloid dressing) every 48 hours, reducing its diameter in 30 days, almost to its closure at discharge without infections and complications.
CONCLUSION:
Aquacel is of a great utility for closure of wounds by secondary intention, accelerating the process of healing.
