Dealing with ostomy patients required from nurse complex and holistic approach. Only if enterostomal nurse is orientated on the patient as a complete person she can assure him good an effective nursing. To identificate social and sociological problems, inventible connected with ostomy patients; we carry out a questioner and asked them about concrete problems, needs and wishes connected with these aspects of their life.
The aim of the research was identification of concrete problems, needs and wishes of ostomy patients covering social and sociological needs in Slovenia region. For this purpose, we conduct qualitative research on national level with half-structured interviews. Interviewes were disposing regionally in intention to cover the whole country. The data were collected from middle of March till and of April 2008 and processing from autumn 2008 till end of the year 2009. The questioner was part of national clinical study Quality of life of ostomy patients in Slovenia.
Into the research were included ostomy patient with different ages, from different societies and with different causes that results with ostomy. We can classify interviewed ostomy patients into three groups regarding the primary illness resulting with ostomy (inflammatory diseases, carcinoma diseases and trauma). For the quality nursing is necessary to understand the impact of primary causes and course of primary illness that results with ostomy on the patient’s acceptance of changed body image and life conditions. For the patients with inflammatory disease creation of stoma is a relief, for carcinoma patient additional burden and for trauma patient a punishment that strikes them. Enterostomal nurse must include these facts into her work to perform a quality nursing of ostomy patients.
