PURPOSE: Ileostomy with IBD makes often the skin trouble that is not controlled by a dermatologist or an ET. Ceramide involved in the skin barrier is to be evaluated for the treatment of peristomal ulcer.
METHODS: Fundamental skin tested in two IBD cases with ulcerated peristomal skin of several years history: We measured Trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) by AS-VT100 (ASAHI BIOMED), and Macro/derma scopic inspection, before.
RESULTS:
(1) The conventional skin barrier made ulcer both cases. All peristomal skin ulcers healed completely with ceramide quickly.
(2) Ceramide put TEWL decreased value in two cases tested skin.
CONCLUSIONS: Ceramide is effective for the treatment of peristomal ulcer by keeping TEWL lower due to maintaining intercellular lipids enough.
