Front resection of rectum is an operation of choice for people with rectal cancer located 5 cm from the anal verge. If the disease is complicated by severe bowel obstruction, then formation of the preventive ostomy becomes inevitable.
It is essential to find the right solution for such people. The temporary stoma should affect the people’s life as less as possible, should not present the threat of development ostomy complication and should not create difficulties in stoma management.
Our Stoma-Centre has adopted the following method of preventive transverse ostomy formation: it is created in the upper right corner (quadrant) of the laparatomy wound, the loop of the bowel is supported by a rod.
We observed a group of people with transverse stomas from the first day after the operation till stoma closure.
Results of our observation include data acquired from questioning of people with preventive transverse stomas.
