PR14-045 Heel Pressure Ulcer Prevention: Developing a Protocol for Heel Protection in Ventilator and Hip Fracture Patients

Purpose:  To improve the quality of care and reduce the number of hospital acquired pressure ulcers (HAPU) related to heel pressure ulcers (hPU) in ventilator patients and hip fracture patients.

Objectives:  1.  Reduce the incidence of HAPU related to hPU.

                    2.  To present information to hospital administration and accounting department to show there is a need for a cushioned heel offloading device.

                    3.  Increase patient comfort by preventing HAPU - hPU's.

                    4.  Increase patient satisfaction by preventing HAPU - hPU's.

                    5.  Overall cost savings related to HAPU - hPU treatment.
